Nomacorc's European Patent Sustained

(02-27-2008)

ZEBULON, N.C. (January 22, 2009) – Nomacorc, the world's leading producer of alternative wine closures, has succeeded in protecting its intellectual property rights in Europe. The company's patent was upheld by the European Patent Office (EPO) in June 2006, a decision that was appealed by Anton Volpini de Maestri Packaging Enterprises L.C., the Austrian producer of Vinotop synthetic closures. Nomacorc and Volpini have reached a settlement and the appeal has been withdrawn. Nomacorc's patent is now in full effect in Europe.

"We are pleased with this outcome," said Lars von Kantzow, president and chief executive officer of Nomacorc. "Our proprietary technology is the result of significant investment in research and development to ensure Nomacorc products are superior to other closure alternatives. It is our practice to vigorously defend any infringement on our patents."
